THANKSGIVING 2012












Here we are at thanksgiving 2012.After  a few challenging weeks for my friends and family both here and in Israel  Our thought and prayers are with all of you. we had decided to do thanksgiving this year with  family & friends a couple of new twists.I could not have gotten all the work done for this years feast without the help of my son Motti and a special shout out to Chiam from Silver Spring Maryland for a special Ingredient that added a new  flavor  & taste to some of our old favorite.You see Chaim shipped us some kosher lamb bacon what a treat.
So here is our menu.
Roasted Butternut squash soup
Roasted Brussel Sproats with bacon onion & garlic
Cranberry sauce
Sausage  dressing
Broccolini
Roasted Turkey
Roasted smashed  baby potatoes with bacon
southwestern 3 bean salad
cole slaw
tossed baby greens with a balsamic vinigrette
and for dessert  pumpkin pie(from fresh roasted pumpkin/chocolate chip cookies

SHABBAT PARSHAT NOACH

looking forward to a shabbat  with my family and special friends.Started to plan my menu earlier this week around a lovely pumpkin picked a few weeks agoLlooking forward to a special dinner at my sisters this evening can't wait to see what special dishes she has in store for us.
  But now that all my cooking and prep is done  i can tell you what my shabbat lunch menu is.
Traditional eggs & onions,my homemade tachina,grilled eggplant baba ganoush,red cabbage salad,cucumber salad,hearts of palm salad,roasted beet salad,sushi salad, shnitzel,challah,chocolate chip cake,assorted gluten free goodies,and hopefully a special treat of Morrocan Lamb stew baked slow and low in the oven in a whole pumpkin.

LAST DAYS OF CHAG

After a wonderful שבת in Allentown Pa. I stopped at Fairway on my way home to pick up  my last minute ingredients for  for special chag menu.The question is where do I start.I did make some traditional items
and added some new ones with the emphasis on a lot of  fresh vegetable side dishes.So here it goes
popcorn cauliflower
allepo meatballs
Kasha varnishkas
roasted butternut squash
gefilte Fish,split pea soup ,Allepo meatballs(from taste of Allepo cookbook),teriyaki chicken,schnitzel,roast butterfly chicken,roasted root vegetables,roasted beet salad,roasted butternut squash,roasted Brussels sprouts with onions and mushrooms,popcorn cauliflower,jasmine rice,braised short ribs,kasha varniskas with rice pasta,home made Challah .Looking forward to sharing Chag with my friends and family

GLUTEN FREE YUMMIES

Here it is ערב שבת and tough I have the pleasure of sharing my meals this שבת with the Mermelsteins and Wachtels and looking forward to going to Elizabeth  for סוכות to spend the first days of the chag  with my  with my special friends and extended family Ilene & Akiva Miller I decided to get some baking done.
using this gluten free formula I found on line an substituting  this in equal parts I baked my chocolate chip cookies,pumpkin muffins,my gluten free oat roll and brownies.
here is the recipe for Gluten free flour
   2 cups rice flour
oat rolls
   1 cup of tapioca flour
   1tsp xantham gum

Wishing My Friends & family A Happy& Sweet New Year

It's been quite a while since I posted my blog though I have been very busy cooking a baking away there is a new side to my story.Since I was  recently  diagnosed with melanoma that required Immunotherapy I made some decisions  about my diet.I have become both dairy & gluten free I have found is amazing how much  better I feel ,but also  how easy it ease to maintain this diet.I have also had a blast adapting some of my favorite recipes and trying new ones.For רואש השנה I began my  cooking & baking marathon this morning with  making a dairy & gluten free spinach lasagna .It wasn't as difficult as it sounds I used rice lasagna noodles toffutti ricoitta cheese and Daya shredded cheese substitute.I  mad a large batch of Gluten free baking flour and proceeded to make a honey cake and my chocolate cookies
 a huge pot of vegetable soup roasted beets,butternut squash,baby yukon gold potatoes,asparagus,grilled  vegetables,Salmon wild & brown dill rice roasted chicken over root vegetables and a beef stew . blueberry lemon gluten free cupcakes and my mini gluten free oat rolls.I can't wait to share some of my new recipes in the future.

New Diet New Menu

Here It is after much though an deliberation I have decided to make some major changes in my diet.As most of you know I'm am currently undergoing imunotherapy for nodular malignant melanoma.Which is why I haven't posted in such a  long time between my 3  surgeries and treatments  I've been more than a little tired.Thank g-d I'm feeling really pretty good and have been  back at work full time,& able to schedule my treatments & doctors appointments  around my work schedule.And so happy to be back in the kitchen doing one of the thingss I love the most and I  can't be more excited about the upcoming wedding of my youngest son Aryeh to Matla Rivenson on August 12 th .
I am now Gluten and Dairy free and not only am I feeling Much better but having a lot of fine tuning of my favorite recipes.I had a lot of fun this past week over the 9 days experimenting with new flavors and ingredients
 My   Shabbat  menu this week isGluten free oat rolls and challah ,gluten free gefilte fish(the trick is  buying  kosher for pesach non-gebrochts)chicken soup  Coqo" van,meatloaf roasted mixed potatoes ,red with white quinoa, eggs & onions ,schnitzel , Chulent with  brown rice, corn salad,beet salad,cucumber salad,Tachina and oat blueberry muffin and for my  guests dill rye bread & chocolate chip cake.

Its been way too Long

  After being away at great friends and sharing their שבת  table both close to home and away  I'm back in the saddle again
cooking for the first time in weeks for shabbat. Thank you Matt & Fagie Greico & the Folgels for giving me this opportunity to really get back to one of the things I love to do here is my menu home baked rye bread,gefilte fish chicken soup braised short risbs ,rice with onions & mushrooms broccolini,roasted caulifower , for shabbat lunch eggs & onions, ,mixed green salad  southwestern quinoa salad,cole slaw schnitzel(oven baked) lamb stew,tachina & tomato salad.
